By Victor Jawaseda:

Allow me to share my opinion on the ongoing Presidential Petition. From the social media to the streets Kenyans and their friends are talking of the Presidential Petition whose hearing is at the Supreme Court. So I also took time to see if there are any benefits that comes with it, and alas! I realize that it comes with so much.

The first one is of course its historic nature! Never in the history of this country has an election of a President been challenged in court. This is the first! I have marked it in my diary and I will explain this to my kids and grandkids if I will be blessed to have them.

The second notable impact is that if the process will be perceived to be free and fair beyond doubts from the majority of the populace, then, based on the peaceful polling process Kenyans will have made a huge step in political maturity and will have learnt a new way of doing things!

The third point is that the petition has given us a chance to see the actual worth of the reforms in the judiciary. Our new constitution, its interpretation and the officers that were birthed out of it will come to a public scrutiny and this is a prime chance for them to show their lustre.

I expect that the verdict of the court, the scrutiny of facts will go a long way in ensuring that personal and collective responsibility in public office will be adhered to by current officers and many more to come.

And so, by the end of the week, just like many Kenyans, I will be waiting for the verdict knowing that whatever takes place, it will a first leap into the right direction for my motherland, Kenya.
